All this week on The DOZ Blog we’re taking a look at marketing around Earth Day. Yesterday we brought you ten facts about Earth Day that are important to keep in mind as you build your Earth Day strategy and today we’re holding up an example of what is the most creative Earth Day marketing event idea ever. Drawing attention to environmental issues is something that businesses and brands can engage in every Earth Day. Being involved can be as simple as washing out the company logo with green for a day or a week, or it can be a…
This Friday marks the annual Earth Day, the international day of reflection on and support for environmental protection. First recognized in 1970 and now approaching its 50th anniversary, Earth Day is celebrated in more than 190 countries around the world with events, conferences, seminars and media coverage shining a light on everything from climate change to recycling, native animals and endangered species, new technologies and energy conservation. It’s also a significant marketing event in the annual calendar. Sure, it’s no Christmas or Fourth of July, but marketers have found that turning their customers on to Earth Day related promotions is…
Welcome to the week! This week the US presidential primary circus is firmly focused on New York. On Tuesday voters go to the polls to cast their ballots for their favorite Republican and Democrat and the most exciting city in the world is buzzing with the extra attention it has gathered in this year’s race. New York, long the home of the global advertising industry on 5th Avenue, has been subjected to many millions of dollars in presidential marketing over the last month with spends among the leading campaigns topping two million each on television alone. Luckily, it will all…
When I grew up in Australia I was aware that there were differences between Australian English and American English, but they didn’t seem all that different. Swap out an ‘s’ for a ‘z’, make things go ‘thru’ instead of ‘through’, and understand that Xing and crossing were the same thing – no big deal, right? And, indeed, nailing the minor differences between Australian English and American English isn’t a problem for most people. Australians realize that ‘realise’ and ‘realize’ mean the same thing and have learnt to excuse the various spellings they encounter in books. Even today I draft most…
In a world where we talk about the values of tweets, engagement rates on Facebook, viral videos on YouTube, loops on Vine, and advertising on mobile devices, is there anything for the modern digital marketer to learn from a 60-year-old marketing strategy? Short answer: yes. In this post we’ll be taking a look at Disney’s marketing strategy from back in 1957 and explaining the different elements, the way they work together, and the way that digital marketers can apply Disney’s decades-old model to their digital marketing campaigns in the present day. The Disney Strategy At first glance it is something…
On this day twenty-four years ago Disneyland Paris opened its doors to European visitors for the very first time. Sort of. In fact, the Disneyland theme park and resort that opened its doors on 12 April 1992 was not Disneyland Paris but the Euro Disney Resort. That name lasted two years before Disney added the word ‘Paris’ to announce Euro Disney Resort Paris in 1994, and then converting the brand to Disneyland Paris in October 1994. Believe it or not, though, even this name didn’t stick. In March 2002 the name changed again and Disneyland Resort Paris was born. The…
Welcome to the week! We’re into the second quarter of the year and things are getting serious. You’re no longer in that post-New Year’s frenzy of anticipation, motivation, and expectations. Instead, you are head down, tail up and pushing hard to meet those first half goals that are within reach – or at least I hope they are. Luckily, it’s Monday – and I do mean luckily. Monday means a new week in which to progress, a new week with which to hit and surpass those KPIs, and a new week to go hard and then go home. Ready to…
As you blog more and as your audience grows there’s a good chance that you’ll be approached by other bloggers who want a piece of that audience. No, they aren’t looking to steal your traffic or to convince your readers to leave your blog and come to theirs – this isn’t a hostile takeover, so relax! Instead, what they are looking for is to ride your wave of success and build a name for themselves among the people who matter: your readers. And the way that they do this is through guest posting. A guest post is relatively straightforward. Someone…
