Easter is just over, and you probably made the mistake of eating too much chocolate even if you knew it is not healthy. As Easter eggs hunters, SEOs sometimes make some mistakes knowing it is not SEO friendly. Let’s identify these mistakes and learn some tips to avoid them.

    Mistake #1: Betting on aesthetics

A lot of websites bet everything on their visual aspect. We all know the primary parameter to improve your ranking is content. Your website has to contain fresh and unique content with the keywords you are targeting. That’s why you shouldn’t set up a website based only on pictures. Make sure you have more content than pictures!
If you’re running a flash website, do not forget to add a HTML version of your website to improve your SEO results.

    Mistake #2: Generating artificial content

Adding new content to your website is one of the keys to success. Unfortunately some webmasters are only generating a significant amount of content based on content that already existing. More than duplicating content, they create what we call spinning content: a process which consists of automating the creation of content by paraphrasing already existing content. The risk of content spinning is to get content of poor quality, that is not unique, with meaningless sentences.

    Mistake #3: Too many keywords

Using too many keywords on your website pages is not a good way to improve your keywords ranking. If you set up a high keyword occurrence, it will be considered as a spammy practice, because it obviously doesn’t look like natural to search engines. Make sure you insert your keywords on your title, description, and other tags; and vary the keywords in your content.

Mistakes #4: Backlinks only to your home page

It seems logical that your home page gets the most backlinks compared to other pages on your website. However, having a disproportionate number of backlinks linking your home page could harm your SEO strategy. As a matter of fact, your in-depth pages could be a very significant asset. They allow you to multiply ‘front doors’ to these in-depth pages and to improve their ranking on SERPs.

Mistake #5: Using similar anchor texts

Whether it is for backlinks or internal links, you should not use the same anchor text too often. Of course, you’ll need to use some keywords but you shouldn’t go too far. Make sure you use keywords synonyms, brand names, domain names, long tail keywords, and more generic keywords like “Read more”. Not only your backlinks will appear more natural to search engines but they will be easily understandable and useful to the reader.
